PRINCETON — Two former Princeton quarterbacks were in the Tiger camp for old times sake — Ben Schmidt and Blake Whitson. Both were waiting to depart for school.

They will be forever linked together for having broken their legs in the same week of the 2004 season. Whitson was the starting QB and was the first to go down. Schmidt, his backup, then broke his leg, throwing sophomore Shane Turpen into the mix for the rest of the season.

Schmidt came back to quarterback his senior year and Turpen reclaimed his old job as a senior in 2006.

Schmidt will return to football practice at Loras College, now playing safety after tearing tendons in his hand from a car accident.

A third old quarterback, PHS girls’ basketball coach Spencer Davis, also visited camp Friday. He’s going to be playing one more game for Mid-State Steel semipro team out of Peoria Saturday night in Kewanee.

Church gang: Four members of the Tigers coaching staff took part in the Princeton Fastpitch Church League tournament on opposite sides. Chris and Charlie Waca wear the St. Matthew’s green while Rob Jensen and Curtis Odell are batterymates for Princeton Bible.

New doc in town: Longtime PHS trainer Dr. Rich Everett introduced his new associate at Princeton Chiropractic, Josh Blunt, who will take Everett’s place on the PHS sidelines.

Tiger tales: The Tigers will continue their doubles practice sessions into the next week,  running just one session Saturday before enjoying a team lunch compliments of master chef and head coach Dave Smith. ... The Blue-White Scrimmage will be held Friday with the Farmington Farmers awaiting in the season opener on Aug. 24 at Bryant Field. ... The Tigers got a boost when sophomore QB Brik Wedekind reported to camp Thursday after not participating in  summer workouts or Wednesday’s first practice. When eligible, Smith said he will be thrown into the varsity mix with senior Jordan Wetsel and classmate Drew Compton.
