Klein warms up to the cold climes of Alaska
Kailey Klein is proving to be just as hot in the coldest parts of the United States as she is in the lower 48 states.
Cleveland State’s hot-shot sophomore guard from little Cherry, Ill. matched a career-high 33 points for the Lady Vikings against Alaska Anchorage in the Great Alaska Shootout Tuesday night. She scored 27 points in the second half.
Still it wasn’t enough as CSU fell 80-72 in overtime.
Klein came back with 18 points and seven rebounds against a familiar opponent from home in CSU’s 82-61 win over Bradley University on Wednesday. She left for home named to the all-tournament team.
The Lady Vikings will return to action at home Monday against Ohio University.
• Katie Carls scored 11 points for the University of St. Francis in a 115-26 win over Indiana-Northwest on Nov. 16. The sophomore guard has started in all six games for the Saints (4-2), averaging 8.5 ppg.
• Princeton’s Brooke Jensen has started all eight games for Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky. The freshman center is averaging 7.8 points and 5.9 rebounds for the Eagles.

Princeton’s Auystin Miller received a scholarship from IVCC, but is not playing.
Football
Harper College freshman quarterback Garrett Barnas of Walnut went out with a bang, setting Graphic Edge Bowl game and school records in a season-ending 24-22 loss to Iowa Central on Nov. 18 in the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Barnas threw for TD passes of 9 and 14 yards, finishing his freshmen season throwing for 2,899 yards in just seven games.
“He started off a little slow, but he is a performer,” Harper coach Dragan Teonic told the Daily Herald. “That’s a competitive son of a gun.”
• Barnas’ former Bureau Valley teammate, Preston Jones (Sheffield), a junior linebacker for Augustana College, was named to the Second Team CCIW all-conference.
