SPRING VALLEY — The Father John Powers Knights of Columbus Council of Spring Valley donated the $6,323.13 proceeds from the annual Tootsie Roll drive to five area schools, Gateway Services and the Area 16 Starved Rock Special Olympics on Jan. 22.
John F. Kennedy School in Spring Valley received $1,500, and the Dalzell, Cherry, Ladd and DePue school districts each received $900 for their special education programs. Gateway Services received $1,023.13 and Special Olympics received $200.
The latest donation brings the total to more than $65,000 to Gateway during the past 26 years, and almost $34,000 to the schools during the past nine years.
