Memorial Day services announced

BUREAU — Memorial Day services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Greenwood Cemetery. In case of rain, services will be held at the Community Building. Refreshments will be offered at the Community Building after the service.
BUDA — Memorial Day will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Hopeland Cemetery, located west of Buda by the Mautino State Park. Guest speakers will be Bureau Valley High School teacher and coach Craig Johnson and the Rev. Fred Criminger of Bunker Hill Church of God. In case of rain, the services will be held in the main gym at Bureau Valley South Elementary and Junior High School. The Buda American Legion Post and Auxiliary will conduct traditional military services followed by a 21-gun salute and taps by Ryan Haney and Joan Maas.
CHERRY — Memorial Day services, conducted by the Ladd American Legion, will be at 9:50 a.m. Monday in the Cherry Miner’s Cemetery.
DALZELL — Memorial Day services, conducted by the Ladd American Legion, will be at Dalzell Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m. Monday. In case of inclement weather, the 11:30 a.m. service will be in St. Benedict’s social hall in Ladd.
DEPUE — A Memorial Day Mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Coffee and rolls will be served after Mass in the parish hall. In case of rain, Mass will be at St. Mary’s Church.
DOVER — A combined honor guard made up of the members of American Legion Post 125, VFW Post 4323 and the AMVETS Post 180, and the American Legion Auxiliary, will conduct graveside ceremonies at 9 a.m. Monday at the Prairie Repose Cemetery.
LADD — Memorial Day services, conducted by the Ladd American Legion, will be at 8:50 a.m. in the Berean Cemetery; at 11 a.m. in the Ladd Cemetery and at 11:30 a.m. in War Memorial Park in Ladd. The Memorial Day address will be given by Martin Rue of the LaSalle County Veterans Assistance Commission. In case of inclement weather, the above services may be canceled, but the 11:30 a.m. service will be in St. Benedict’s social hall in Ladd.
LAMOILLE — Memorial Day services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Greenfield Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Graham, pastor of the First Baptist Church of LaMoille, will give the invocation and scripture. Harold Steele of Dover will be guest speaker. In case of inclement weather, the program will be at the First Baptist Church.
MALDEN — A combined honor guard made up of the members of American Legion Post 125, VFW Post 4323 and the AMVETS Post 180, and American Legion Auxiliary, will conduct graveside ceremonies at 9:15 a.m. Monday in Malden Cemetery.
MANLIUS — Manlius will observe Memorial Day at 10 a.m. Monday in Mullin Memorial Park. Participants are asked to bring lawn chairs.
NEPONSET — The American Legion Post 875 of Neponset will host Memorial Day events at 11 a.m. Monday in the Neponset Community Building. Jim Nowlan will be the guest speaker.
NEW BEDFORD — Memorial Day services will be at 2 p.m. June 1 in the Greenville-Fairfield Cemetery, north of New Bedford. The services will be conducted by the New Bedford Royal Neighbor Camp 1491. In case of rain, the service will be moved to the New Bedford Christian Church.
OHIO — St. Mary’s Cemetery Memorial Day services will begin at 8 a.m. Monday with Mass at the Immaculate Conception Church. After Mass, participants will drive to St. Mary’s Cemetery on Baseline Road, north of Ohio, for rosary service conducted by the Rev. Daniel Wilder.
PRINCETON — The Princeton Veterans Organization, consisting of American Legion Post 125, AMVETS Post 180 and VFW Post 4323, will conduct combined Memorial Day services Monday, beginning with services at Oakland Cemetery at 8 a.m., Elm Lawn Memorial Park at 8:20 a.m., Prairie Repose in Dover at 8:45 a.m. and at the Malden Cemetery at about 9:15 a.m. A Memorial Day parade with will begin at 10 a.m. from Nelson’s Drug Store on North Main Street. A program will be at 10:45 a.m. at Soldiers and Sailors Park. Father Ed Harkrader, a Korean War veteran, will be the speaker.
SEATONVILLE — Memorial Day services, conducted by the Ladd American Legion, will be at 8:15 a.m. Monday at Ray Barto Memorial Park in Seatonville.
SHEFFIELD — The Sheffield American Legion Post 415 firing squad will salute veterans at the Sheffield Catholic Cemetery at 8:45 a.m. Monday and at the Sheffield Cemetery at 9:15 a.m. The Legion and the Sheffield Auxiliary will hold Memorial Day services at 10 a.m. at Veterans-School Park. Guest speakers will be Richard Block of the Sheffield Knights of Columbus. Bill Robinson will emcee the program. The Auxiliary will serve cookies immediately following the program in the park. In the event of rain, services will be at the United Methodist Church.
SPRING VALLEY — Memorial Day services, co-sponsored by American Legion Dominic Oberto Post 182 and Veterans of Foreign War Piery Ward Post 9668, will begin at 2 p.m. Monday Valley Memorial Park in Spring Valley. The featured speaker will be Marine Corps Sgt. Sharon Weiden, a Vietnam war veteran. In case of rain, services will be in the John F. Kennedy Grade School gym.
TISKILWA — Memorial Day services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in East Park. All veterans are invited to join the honor guard and should meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Legion Hall.
VAN ORIN — Memorial Day services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Van Orin Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Vincent officiating. The Civil Air Patrol from Peoria will raise the colors. Music will be provided by Cheri Zimmerlein. Veterans interned at the cemetery will be acknowledged by a reading of the names from the War of 1812 to the present. In the event of rain, services will be held in the Bache Chapel. Coffee and doughnuts will be served in the lower level of the chapel after the service.
WALNUT — American Legion Post 179 will conduct services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Walnut Cemetery. Ron Eckberg will be the guest speaker and Pastor Brian Moore will give the invocation and benediction. The reading of a soldier’s prayer will be given by Samantha Transou, a senior at Bureau Valley High School. The program will conclude at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with prayer by Pastor Moore, a reading by the American Legion Auxiliary and the traditional salute by the Legion firing squad.
WYANET — Memorial Day services will start at 10 a.m. Monday with a march from the Methodist church to Forest Hill Cemetery. Services at the cemetery will be by the Wyanet VFW post, Mayor John Gordon and the Rev. Steve Scott.
