BC Blaze catching fire
The Bureau County Blaze have been playing well all summer long as they improve their record to 29-8. On June 14, the Blaze were 3-0 and took second place. Rain halted the rest of the tournament and based on runs scored and allowed to determine the second-place finish.
The Blaze defeated Yorkville 11-2 in the first game as Taylor Williams and Brianna Kamphuis pitched well in the win. Alyssa Perez had two RBIs while Williams, Sam Shepard, Kamphuis and Laura Brummel each had one RBI.
Game two the Blaze defeated Triple Play 4-1 as Shepard was the winning pitcher and Kamphuis picked up two RBIs. Then, in their final game of the tournament, the Blaze defeated Amboy 8-0 with Williams getting the two-hit shutout.
Last weekend, the Blaze took part in the Heartland Shoot Out in East Moline and went 5-3 taking second place.
Game one saw the Blaze handle the Force of Farmington, 8-3. Again, Williams was the winner, and five different players had RBIs.
On Saturday, the Blaze lost a heartbreaker in game two as the Panthers took the contest 3-2. Williams took the loss. The Blaze responded with a 6-2 victory over Libertyville with Shepard getting the win and Kamphuis the save.
In game four, the Blaze, again dropped a heartbreaker 6-5 to the Fusion. Williams hit her first home run of the season in the loss.
The Blaze Red defeated Blaze White 8-5 on Sunday with Williams getting the win. They followed that up with another win over the Sauk Valley Storm 3-1.
The Blaze made it three in a row with a 6-5 win over Chillicothe. Kamphuis got the win with four different players picking up RBIs.
In the championship game, the Minonk Crush won the battle with the Blaze 3-1 to end the tournament.
The Blaze are playing at state this weekend.
