PRINCETON — A Bureau County teen was ticketed following a Wednesday morning accident at Route 6/34 on the west edge of Princeton.

Deputy Sherry Keefer, with the Bureau County Sheriff’s Department, reported the 16-year-old was traveling eastbound on Route 6/34, coming into Princeton, when she lost control of her vehicle. The girl had apparently leaned over to steady a box of kittens in her car when she got into the wrong lane and hit an oncoming Bureau County Senior Center bus.

The senior center bus was driven by Terry Phillips. An elderly woman and another senior center helper were also on the bus.

Keefer reported both the teen driver and the elderly woman were taken to Perry Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries.

The Bureau County Sheriff’s Department received the call at 9:25 a.m. Assisting at the scene were the Princeton Police Department, Princeton Fire and Ambulance, and Illinois Department of Transportation. The road was closed for about 20 minutes for clean-up.

The teen driver was ticketed with improper lane usage and failure to exercise due caution to avoid an accident.
