OGLESBY — Illinois Valley Community College board of trustees heard a presentation on June 25 from Mark Grzybowski, dual credit/dual enrollment coordinator/career and technical education recruiter, on IVCC’s partnerships for college success.
Early Entry College, core general education courses, and Partnerships for College and Career Success, career and technical program courses, are supplemental opportunities for high school students to earn college credit while enrolled as juniors or seniors in area high schools at a reduced tuition cost of $30.50 per credit hour, or at 50 percent less than the traditional tuition costs, while Partnerships for College and Career Success, formerly Tech Prep, offer courses at no cost to high school students. These general education core course options are taught at area high schools to qualifying students. Early Entry courses are currently offered at 15 district high schools including: Earlville, Hall, Henry-Senachwine, LaMoille, LaSalle-Peru, Marquette, Mendota, Midland, Ottawa, Princeton, St. Bede, Seneca, Serena, Streator and Woodland, with DePue joining this fall and Putnam County to join in 2009. Partnerships for College and Career Success are offered at 11 district high schools including: DePue, Hall, LaMoille, LaSalle-Peru, L-P Area Career Center, Mendota, Ottawa, Princeton, Putnam County, Seneca and Streator.
The board accepted an annual maintenance proposal from McQuay Factory Service of $49,754 for the first year, $51,232 for the second year and $52,757 for the third year for six McQuay Screw Chillers.
The board approved:
• Stipends for pay periods ending on May 15 and 17.
• Peru Federal Savings Bank for banking services for the college’s operating account and Citizens First National Bank for banking services for the college’s trust and agency accounts.
• The updated Resource Allocation Management Program for the Community Instructional Center proposal in the amount of $21,764,100, which includes the college’s match portion of $5,441,000, and the capital request for the renovations to buildings B, C and D proposal in the amount of $11,155,000, which includes the college’s match portion of $2,788,700, and proposed additions and renovations to buildings C and G in the amount of $15,665,000, which includes the college’s match portion of $3,916,200.
• The Information Technology Strategic Plan for fiscal year 2009 and the recommended equipment and software purchases.
• The purchase of 102 computers from Dell in the amount of $84,150.
• The temporary assignments of Perkins grant coordinator to Marianne Dzik; leadership for the IVCC curriculum process and co-director of the IVCC/Starved Rock Associates for Vocational and Technical Education/Partnerships for College and Career Success to Jeannette Mathis; and CurricUNET implementation management to Judy Day.
• The implementation of a medical leave bank for all regular full-time support staff not affected by a labor agreement.
• The addition of three new positions: a full-time CWT/Bridge instructor, a full-time warehousing instructor and a part-time welding instructor, along with the elimination of a full-time Computer Technology A+ instructor for the contract with the Illinois Department of Corrections for contract services provided by the college at Sheridan Correctional Center.
• The appointment of Bruce Markwlater as the new CWT/Bridge instructor at Sheridan Correctional Center.
In other business, the board adopted the prevailing wage resolution for fiscal year 2009, authorized the college to continue expenditures required for normal operations including salaries, approved contracts, utilities, maintenance, supplies and activities from July 1 through budget adoption, and learned of the resignation of Glenn R. Rassi as truck driver training site facilitator.
