Donald Scully
NAPERVILLE — Donald E. “Don” Scully, 86, a resident of Naperville since 1962, formerly of Ohio, Ill., and Crystal Lake, died Thursday, July 31, 2008, at St. Patrick’s Residence in Naperville where he had resided since January 2007.
Born Aug. 13, 1921, in Dixon to Edward and Harriet (Theiss) Scully, he married Virginia Amstutz. She preceded him in death.
He grew up in Ohio, Ill., and graduated with a degree in chemistry from St. Procopius College (now Benedictine University) in Lisle. He worked for 41 years as a research chemist at Pure Oil Co. (now UNOCAL), retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Knife and Fork Club, all in Naperville. He was also a member of American Chemical Society, Instrument Society of America, The Scientific Research Society of America and Chicago Chromatography Discuss-ion Group.
Surviving are two daughters, Denise (Charles) Erb of Norway, Ill., and Karen (Joseph) Roth of Naperville; one sister, Corrine (Tom) Lonergan of Macomb; seven grandchildren, Danielle (Matt) Fell, Andrea (Blake) Bobosky and Marshall Erb, Sandra (Nick) Brasile, Kelly (Derick) Dillard, Nicole Roth and Joseph Roth; eight great-grandchildren, Madison and Nicolas Fell, Addie, Dessa and Julia Bobosky, Hailey Brown, and Aiden and Morgan Dillard; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one son, Dennis J. Scully.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, in the chapel at St. Patrick’s Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville. Burial will be in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Naperville.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at St. Patrick’s Residence. Visitation was also held Monday in the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, Naperville.
