CPR class

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Metro Center will hold an American Red Cross CPR/AED class for the professional rescuer from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 6. The class, for ages 15 and over, is to teach professional rescuers the skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies, including the use of automated external defibrillators. Individuals who might be interested in this class are law enforcement officials, firefighters, athletic trainers, emergency technicians, nurses, physicians, emergency response teams and lifeguards. Meeting set

DEPUE — The DePue/ Bureau County Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 4 at the VFW Hall in DePue. The 2008-09 membership drive is on. Anyone wishing to join the club can attending this meeting. Refreshments will be served after the meeting. Any member wishing to donate coats to the DePue Ladies Auxiliary’s coat sale can bring the coats to the meeting.

Opening meeting

NEPONSET — The Neponset Woman’s Thursday Club will hold its opening meeting at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 4 in the Community Building. The program for the day will be Abby Curran, reigning Miss Iowa queen and producer of the Miss You-Can Do-it pageant in Kewanee. She will speak about her many experiences as a pageant participator and producer. Guests are welcome. Hostesses for the day are Wink Barry and Carol Gerrond.

Flags for sale

PRINCETON — American Legion Post 125 in Princeton has American-made 3-by-5-foot American flags for sale. For information, call the post home at (815) 872-1171 in the mornings or stop by the post home at 1549 West Peru St. in Princeton.

DAR to meet

PRINCETON — The Princeton-Illinois chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 5 at the Coffee Depot in Wyanet. Lunch will follow the meeting, then members will visit the Wyanet Historical Society where directors Gerald and Barbara Heuer will present a program. DAR members will meet at 10 a.m. at the Prouty Building to carpool to Wyanet. Hostesses are Beverly Larson, Evelynn Blanco and Mary Davidson. DAR Days will be Sept. 10 in Moline. Constitution Week will be Sept. 17-23, with bell ringing at 4 p.m. Sept. 17. For reservations, call (815) 875-4127.
