Annual Homestead pie contest will be Sept. 13
PRINCETON — Every-one is invited to participate in a “Make it with Lard” pie-baking contest to be held during the Homestead Festival. The event, sponsored by the Bureau County Home and Community Education Association, will be Sept. 13 at Soldiers and Sailors Park.
Persons may enter as many pies as they wish, but prizes are limited to one per person. They must be a two-crust pie, the crust must be made with lard and the pie should be in a disposal pan. Recipes for the crust and filling must be submitted with the pie. Do not put your name on the recipe card, for judging purposes.
All pies should be at the park by 9 a.m. Sept. 13. Judges will determine the top four pies, and prizes of $25, $20, $15 and $10 gift certificates from Wyanet Meat Locker for pork products will be awarded. Pies will be auctioned at noon.
There will be a special category for youth, 18 and younger. Cash prizes will be awarded in this division.
There is no advanced entry requirement and no entry fee. For questions, call Pat Rod at (815) 875-2180.
