Tigers land NCIC honors

Princeton landed three first-team all-conference soccer players and two on the second team on the NCIC All-Conference team announced Monday.

Senior midfielder Matt McClure and junior Scott Roseberg of Princeton both received unanimous selection from NCIC coaches. PHS goalkeeper B.J. Arndt also was named to the first team with senior midfielder Brandon Dressler and sophomore forward Reiter Bird earning second-team honors.

Unanimous selections include junior forward Chris Olivera of IVC, senior forward Jose Sanchez of Ottawa and senior forward Raciel Ocampo of Sterling.

Remaining first-team picks include senior mid Brett Willey of Dixon, senior mids Tyler Morton and Mike Miller of Geneseo, senior mid Alex Olivera of IVC, senior defender Ivan Chino of Sterling and senior forward Tim Trezpacz and senior mid Zach Horton of Streator.

• NCIC standings: Ster-ling is alone atop the NCIC at 6-0. Geneseo and IVC are tied for second at 4-2 with Princeton, and Streator tied for fourth at 3-3. Dixon leads the F/S race at 6-0, followed by Princeton at 5-1.

• Regional time: Prince-ton will be hosting a 1A boys’ soccer regional in Tiskilwa on Saturday. The Tigers are the top seed in the six-team field, awaiting the first-round winner between Riverdale and Oregon for a semifinal match on Saturday. DePue (6-9-1) is the 2 seed, drawing the winner between No. 4 Paw Paw and No. 3 Mendota.

PHS has picked up an Oct. 16 match with Morris, which will be joining the NCIC next year. PHS had an open date when Earlville/Leland backed out of its game Thursday because it was playing in the Little 10 Tournament.

• Quick kicks: Earlville/Leland defeated Hinckley-Big Rock to capture the Little Ten Tournament title. Those teams were co-champions in the LTC with 5-1 records.
