First aid class
PRINCETON — The Bureau County Metro Center will hold an American Red Cross Community First Aid and Safety class for those 12 years old and older from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 15. The class combines CPR and first aid training to teach participants to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants, children and adults. This is a good class for teachers, parents and other childcare providers. The cost is $30. Instructor is Beth Coleman. To register for the class, or for more information, call (815) 872-0840.
Presentation set
PRINCETON — The Council On Athletic Character and Honor (COACH) will host a presentation by Jake Weiler of Positive Coaching Alliance at 1 p.m. Nov. 1 at Princeton High School’s Sally Skinner Auditorium. The presentation is free and open to the public. Anyone interested or involved in youth sports is welcome to attend and learn about Positive Coaching Alliance. Review course
PRINCETON — The Bureau County Senior Center in Princeton will hold a Rules of the Road review course from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the center, 16 W. Marion St., Princeton. This is a refresher course for those who will take their driver’s test. Dan Passini from the Division of the Illinois Drivers Services will be the instructor. There is no need for appointments, but there is a suggested donation of $2 for the course.
Meeting set
WYANET — The Wyanet Golden Eagles will meet at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Coffee Depot in Wyanet. Lunch will be the responsibility of those attending. RSVP to Nancy at (815) 699-7001. All seniors 50 and over are welcome.
Annual drawdown
SPRING VALLEY — The Spring Valley Fire Department will hold its annual drawdown beginning at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Peru Eagles Lodge. A dinner, catered by the Peru Eagles, will be served at 7 p.m., followed by the drawdown and music afterwards by Bad Dog DJ service. Prizes to be given away include $1,000.00 for first place, $500 for second, $400 for third, $300 for fourth, $200 for fifth and $100 for six. In addition, there will be 16 different $25 winners. Tickets are $40 per couple and only 250 tickets will be sold. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets may contact the Spring Valley Fire Department at (815) 664-5160 and leave a message or contact a Spring Valley firefighter. Proceeds from the drawdown help purchase much needed equipment for the department.
Mine disaster anniversary
CHERRY — The Cherry Booster Club will note the 99th anniversary of the Cherry Mine Disaster on Nov. 9. A pancake breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. to noon in the Holy Trinity Church Hall. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children. A bake sale will also be from 7 a.m. to noon. The Cherry library will be open Saturday and Sunday for participants to view artifacts and a mine model.
Blood drives
PRINCETON — The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will have a blood drive from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in the fourth floor multi-purpose room of Perry Memorial Hospital and from 2:15 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in the MVRBC bus at MTM Recognition, 615 S. Sixth St. Donors who last gave blood on or before Sept. 11 are eligible. Donors must be 16 years old, in good health, and weigh at least 110 pounds. A blood donor card or other photo I.D. is required to donate; 16-year-old donors must present a signed parental consent form, available from blood center offices or its Web site www.bloodcenter.org. Halloween party
PRINCETON — Orchard View Rehabilitation and Health Care will have a Halloween party on Friday. Children from the Bright Beginnings program will be at the facility at 9:15 a.m. The public is invited to attend to watch the children parade around in their costumes.
Pumpkin judging
PRINCETON — The Princeton Young Professionals will host a pumpkin judging contest for the community today, Saturday, in conjunction with the Princeton Park District’s chili cook off at City-County Park in Princeton.
Glow light give-away
PRINCETON — The Princeton Jaycees’ annual glow light give-away will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the Princeton Fire Station. At the same time, the Jaycees will collect non-perishable goods for the Bureau County Food Pantry.
