George Johnson

LADD — George W. Johnson, 97, formerly of Ladd, died at 10:27 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Spring Valley.

Born Aug. 18, 1911, in Ladd to Charles and Freda (Nyberg) Johnson, he married Lorraine DeFilippi Oct. 16, 1937. She survives.

He was a foreman at New Jersey Zinc Co. in DePue for many years.

He was a member of St. Benedict Church.

Also surviving are three sons, George (Anne) Johnson of Torrance, Calif., Larry (Mary Jane) Johnson of Geneva and Jerry Johnson of Bloomingdale; three sisters, Esther Mignone and Freda Sebastian, both of Janesville, Wis., and Violet Winang of Downers Grove; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Benedict’s Church, Ladd, with the Rev. Ronald Margherio, O.S.B., officiating. Burial will be in Valley Memorial Park, Spring Valley.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Hurst Funeral Home, Ladd.
