PRINCETON — Whenever there is a need, Freedom House has been blessed by the generosity of its communities, and this year has been no exception.
“Living in these difficult economic times, we understand that even though the need is greater than ever, that people just can’t give in the capacity they may have in the past,” said Stephanie Cartwright, Freedom House special projects manager. “However, this is certainly not the case when it comes to keeping our clients and children warm this winter. We have been truly blessed with an outpouring of coats, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.”
The new and gently used coats and winter apparel — more than 150 pieces in all — were collected by Cheryle Williams and Brooke Shepard and recently distributed to Freedom House via Upscale Resale.
“All the items donated to Upscale Resale directly benefit clients, men and women both, their children and teens,” Cartwright said. “Clients have the opportunity to shop, free of charge, at Upscale Resale, and once their needs are met, the other donations purchased by the general public come directly back to Freedom House and are used for the clients’ benefit. It’s a wonderful system for all involved. The clients get what they need and donors can know first-hand that they are making a difference.
“We so appreciate what Cheryle and Brooke have done for us,” she added.
Freedom House offers domestic violence and rape crisis services to victims in Bureau, Henry, Marshall, Putnam and Stark counties and beyond, and Upscale Resale is directly affiliated with Freedom House. In addition to helping victims of abuse, Upscale Resale also distributes vouchers so that qualified clients of Tri-County Opportunities Council, the Bureau County Health Department/WIC, the Bureau County Health and Wellness Clinic and Catholic Charities can shop there free of charge as well.
“All donations to Freedom House and Upscale Resale are welcome, whether it’s clothing or furniture, dinnerware or home décor or even, artificial Christmas trees and ornaments. If someone would have need of it and it’s in good shape, we want it,” said Cartwright. “Your donations are a way to ‘pay it forward’ and we will certainly put your kindness to good work.”
Upscale Resale is also desperately seeking volunteers. Upscale Resale hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednes-days and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
