Community Day
PRINCETON — Bureau County United Way will host a Community Day on Tuesday at Monical’s Pizza, 302 S. Main St. in Princeton. Monical’s will donate 20 percent of dining bills to the Bureau County United Way for anyone dining between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. who present a flier when ordering. Pancake breakfast
BUDA — The Buda-Neponset Rescue Unit will have a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Buda Community Hall. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for ages 6-12.
Meeting cancellation
TISKILWA — The Tiskilwa Historical Society’s meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday has been canceled. Monthly meetings will resume Feb. 9.
Woodcrafters to meet
PRINCETON — The regular monthly meeting of the Woodcrafters Unlimited will be Thursday at the Bureau County Senior Citizens Center, 16 W. Marion St. in Princeton. Show and tell will start at 6:30 p.m. Members, and anyone interested in joining, are reminded that dues are now payable and the cost is $20 per year. All meetings are open to the public.
Babysitting training
PRINCETON — The Bureau County American Red Cross will hold a babysitting training class from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Red Cross office in the Prouty Building. The training is for all interested 11- to 15-year-olds who want to become responsible babysitters. Participants will learn how to keep children safe inside and outside of the home, how to choose age-appropriate toys and games, how to communicate with parents, care for infants, and how to handle emergencies. Participants must be at least 11 years old and will receive a Red Cross certificate after completing the course. The cost is $40 and participants should bring a sack lunch. Breastfeeding support
PERU — La Leche League of the Illinois Valley, a breastfeeding support group, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Peru. This monthly group is designed to help mothers gain knowledge and support from other breastfeeding moms. January’s discussion will revolve around, but is not limited to, “The Advantages of Breastfeeding”. Expecting mothers are also encouraged to attend. Winter ball
PRINCETON — The Perry Memorial Hospital Foundation will host a winter ball and casino night Feb. 7 at the Bureau County Metro Center. The event is open to the public and will include a cocktail hour at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m., and dancing and casino games from 8 to 11 p.m. The event will feature music by Vince Gelsomino and Phaze. Event tickets are $40 per person and must be purchased before Feb. 2. Parties of eight may reserve an entire table. Tickets will be held at the door. HCE meeting
PRINCETON — The Princeton Jr. HCE will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Naomi Farrell with Dorothy Herrick as the co-hostess. The major lesson will be given by Caryl Shettel and Ruth Eklof.
Chamber luncheon
PRINCETON — The Princeton Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a “Women in Business” luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Wine Cellar, 425 S. Main St. in Princeton. Nedda Simon will present “The Four Aspects of Staying Healthy.” The cost is $15 for Chamber members, $20 for the public. Proceeds will be donated to Freedom House in Nedda’s honor. Chili cook-off
MOLINE — Alternatives for the Older Adult will hold its first Super Chili Bowl Cook Off from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Viking Club Banquet Hall, 1450 41st St. in Moline. There will be prizes and music by the band, Tapped Out. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children.
