Lady Bruins carry Illinois colors against Hawkeyes
The St. Bede Lady Bruins got a taste of the Iowa-Illinois interstate hoop wars Saturday, defeating Davenport North 52-32 at Black Hawk College in Moline.
The Lady Bruins relied on the trio of Samantha Galas (18 points), Molly Mauck (16) and Ashley Pearson (12) for the bulk of its scoring attack.
The six games were split with Illinois winning three, and Iowa three. One of the Illinois victors included Geneseo, which beat Davenport Central 60-45.
Prophetstown 51, Bureau Valley 46: The Storm played the Lady Prophets down to the wire in Saturday’s TRAC-8 title on the road. Tiffany Mussche led the Storm (11-10) with 14 points, and Lauren Hasbrook added 13.
Hall 82, Putnam County 21: The Lady Devils put this one away early with a 26-7 first-quarter lead. Everyone scored for Hall, headed by Allison Pelka’s 14 points, Claire Faletti (11) and Carly Prokup (10).
Junior high boys
SRC tourney: Spring Valley JFK defeated Streator 38-30 in the eighth-grade portion of the Starved Rock Conference Tournament at Ottawa Shepherd on Saturday. The Wildcats will face top-seeded Princeton Logan at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.
In the seventh grade, JFK fell to Peru 30-24, which will now face top-seeded Princeton Logan at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
