SPRING VALLEY — The Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library was named a Picturing America award recipient. Picturing America introduces people of every age to our nation’s history and culture by bringing great works of American art into classrooms and libraries. As a recipient, the library received 20 laminated, double-sided posters (24” x 36”) depicting works of American art, a resource book with information about the paintings, sculpture, architecture and crafts reproduced on the posters, and a project based Web site. These posters remain at the library for future use, even after the grant term. The library is hanging the posters throughout the library and at various times throughout the year. Please stop by the library to browse the posters and read about each work of art. Picturing America is presented by the National Endowment for the Humanities, in cooperation with the American Library Association.

OHIO — The next Family Night @ the Ohio Public Library will be at 6 p.m. Monday. The night will focus on penguins. All are invited to hear the book “My Penguin Osbert” and then watch “Happy Feet.” Popcorn and fruit punch will be provided. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite penguin with them to the library. For further information or if you have any questions, please contact Justin Mapes, library director, at (815) 376-5422 or by e-mail at mapesjustin@hotmail.com.
The Ohio Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The book up for discussion is “Crescent” by Diana Abu-Jaber. Thirty-nine-year-old Sirine works as a chef in a Lebanese restaurant, her passions aroused only by the preparation of food-until an unbearably handsome Arabic professor starts dropping by for a little home cooking. Falling in love brings Sirine’s whole heart to a boil-stirring up memories of her parents and questions about her identity. Copies are available at the library.
