OHIO — The Ohio Grade School Board took action on the following items at its meeting March 17:

• Approved a visit by Dr. Arnold Faber at 8:30 a.m. April 29 to conduct sports physicals. There will be about 27 students at a cost of $20 each.

• Agreed to move the April board meeting to April 28 to seat newly-elected board members.

• Heard from Superintendent Sharon Flesher that maintenance man Bart Piper had adjusted or rebuilt several of the heating units in the classrooms and inspected all doors to determine what needs to be done for the Life Safety survey.

• Heard there is a potential board vacancy. The board will have 30 days to appoint someone after the election.

• Discussed the Illinois Missing Children report. The state has mandated that each school district must review the report annually to verify that none of the missing children attend the school.

• Discussed switching the building’s Internet service to Essex Telcom Inc. The board approved the switch, pending the high school board approval.

• Heard 13 students participated in the district’s Scholastic Bowl team.

• Heard the district hosted the BVEC Speech Contest this year, and that Rachel Swanson and Caitlin Quarton received a first rating. McKenzie Ioder and Rachel Swanson received a second rating. Principal Mark Downey also thanked coach Sarah Hansen, the teachers and judges Sara Kessel and Andrew Townsend for their efforts.
