LAMOILLE — A regular in productions for the LaMoille High School drama program, senior Allison Lampe has had leading roles on the stage.

The senior outfielder also also has a leading role on the diamond for the LaMoille/Ohio co-op softball team. Coach Fred Bell says Lampe is one of his top defenders.

She says she enjoys the thrill of making a big play in the outfield for the Lady Lions.

“When you get that awesome catch, it feels totally amazing,” Lampe said.

Lampe, who also played volleyball for the co-op this year, has enjoyed the experience so far.

“It’s been interesting; we’ve met a lot of cool new people,” Lampe said.

After losing some key players to graduation, the Lady Lions’ softball team is forming a new identity.

“We’re coming along. We’ve got a lot of new people. We lost a lot of seniors last year, so we’re adjusting.”

When she’s not shagging fly balls for the Lady Lions, Lampe spends a lot of time performing.

“I’ve always liked theater and musicals since I was little,” Lampe said.

Lampe had one of her first tastes of performing at her church, the Hollowayville United Church of Christ, where she started playing the piano and organ five years ago.

At LaMoille she has had lead roles in several productions, including playing Clara in “The Groom Said No,” and Mrs. Deland, a teacher in “The Haunted High School.”

“She was kind of eccentric and crazy. It wasn’t very hard,” said Lampe of her role as Deland.

The LaMoille Drama Department is fun for Lampe, due to the selection of interesting plays to perform.

“We get to do a lot of small plays that people haven’t heard of,” Lampe said. “Sometimes it can be a disadvantage, but a lot of times its fun because people aren’t expecting you to play it like they’ve seen it.”

Lampe has also been involved in communtity theater productions as well, with a role in Festival 56’s “City of Angels,” and also playing Beth in the Prairie Arts Center production of “Little Women.”

After graduation, Lampe plans on attending Illinois Valley Community College for her general education credits. Afterwards, she hopes to attend North Central College in Naperville for journalism and an English teacher certification.
