Concert planned
OGLESBY — Illinois Valley Community College will host guest artist Melanie Montgomery performing "Variations and Theme" by composer Anne McGinty at the IVCC Wind Ensemble concert on April 23 in the Cultural Centre.
Montgomery holds a masters degree in music performance from the Indiana University School of Music where she studied with Carol Wincenc, Peter Lloyd and Kathryn Lukas. She has appeared as a recitalist throughout the Midwest as well as New York and Spain as part of a concert series dedicated to promoting young artists.
As an orchestral flutist, Montgomery has performed with the Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra and with the Seville Symphony Orchestra on their annual tour of Spain. From 1996 through 1999, she was solo flutist for the First Baptist Church concert series in New York City.
Montgomery currently resides with her husband and two sons in the western suburbs of Chicago where she serves as First Flute/Principal Stand, in the Northshore Concert Band and maintains an active playing and teaching calendar.
Other selections to be performed by the ensemble include music by Robert Russell Bennett, Camille Saint-Saens, James Curnow and Karl King.
The Wind Ensemble concert will be at 7:30 p.m. April 23 in the IVCC Cultural Centre.
