PES OKs modular building
Board will lease the $71,500 structure
PRINCETON — The Princeton Elementary School Board has voted to lease-to-own a $71,500 modular building in order to provide needed space for the Lincoln Elementary staff and students.
The board made its decision at Monday's regular board meeting. The new unit should be in place by the start of school next fall.
On Friday, Superintendent Tim Smith said the two-room modular measures 24-feet by 68-feet and will most likely be used for classrooms. The unit is 2 years old and in excellent condition. The unit is currently leased by a Washington elementary district.
Smith said the modular building will be placed on the east side of the Lincoln building, which will require moving the current playground further east onto the grassy area. Some pieces of playground equipment could be moved later this month before the end of school, he said.
At this point, the PES District expects to have 255-260 second- and third-graders next fall at Lincoln. Lincoln's current enrollment is 233. The Lincoln building has been cramped for space for quite some time.
As far as the rest of the district, Smith said the other school buildings are managing with their current space. There are some space issues at Jefferson Elementary, but some adjustments will be made to handle those concerns, he said.
