No one at fault in mail carrier's death

BUDA — The investigation into the April 16 traffic death of rural postal carrier Brenda Linder has been completed.

On Monday, Bureau County Sheriff John Thompson said the 10-page report finds the April 16 accident was just that, a tragic accident.

Linder was on her mail route at about 10:48 a.m. April 16 when she attempted to pass a John Deere tractor and loader traveling on the Buda Blacktop about two miles east of Buda. The tractor, driven by Joseph Jandura, 27, of LaMoille was attempting a left turn when Linder attempted to pass. The loader came around and caught the Linder vehicle.

On Monday, Thompson said there were no tickets issued in the accident. No driver was at fault. It was a question of judgment.

Both Linder's jeep and the John Deer tractor were in proper working order. The tractor had its turn signal on, according to witnesses. There were no road or weather conditions factoring into the accident. Linder's 1996 Jeep had been designed for postal work, with the operating mechanisms on the right.

According to the investigation, Linder was traveling about 45 miles per hour when she attempted to pass the tractor.

Linder was pronounced dead at 11:32 a.m. April 16 at Perry Memorial Hospital by Bureau County Coroner Janice Wamhoff.

Thompson said the accident report will be turned over to Wamhoff. At the time of the accident, Wamhoff said an inquest will be conducted into Linder's death.

Jandura was not transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

Accident site reconstructionist Gary Beckett with the Bureau County Sheriff's Department conducted the investigation. Assisting at the accident site were the Buda Fire and Rescue Unit, Princeton Ambulance and the Bureau County Sheriff's Department.
