My profound thanks

To the Editor,

My husband and I emerged recently from Perry Memorial Hospital after his eye surgery was over. As we reached the car, without thinking, I put two things on top of the car’s trunk in order to assist my husband if he needed help getting out of the wheelchair. The objects were — my book and a black zippered bag, which we had just been given, containing his medications and several sheets of instructions concerning post-surgery care. I totally forgot that I’d put them there.

We had to drive to Citizens Bank on South Main Street before returning home. As I parked in Citizens’ back parking lot, a lady rushed over to my car carrying the black bag and my book, which she had observed on the back of my car as she was driving along. She had followed us to our destination to return the articles to us. I presume they had been flung off somewhere.

As I was getting out of the car, trying to express my profound gratitude, she hurried off, and other than a gasped “thank-you,” I was unable to catch up with her.

It is my hope that she will see this short article. She is indeed a modern Good Samaritan, and it makes me happy that I live in Princeton, Illinois.
