SPRING VALLEY — Lindsay Wallaert starting playing AAU basketball with hopes of improving her game to take her to the next level and attract the interest of college coaches.

It has all paid off, along with her work in the classroom.

The Hall Lady Red Devils’ captain and Most Valuable Player has signed on to continue her basketball career for Lake Forest College next season, located 30 miles north of downtown Chicago.

Lake Forest coach Tamlyn Tills first saw Wallaert play AAU ball for former Hall coach Pat Cinotte and a connection was formed.

“AAU helped me a lot. It’s one of the main reasons I played,” Wallaert said.

Wallaert said she chose Lake Forest because she liked coach Tills and it’s “a really good school for academics.” She is undecided in what major she will pursue.

Wallaert said her family has always taken vacations to the Chicago area and that Lake Forest is ideal in that it’s not too far from home, but far enough.

A first team NCIC Lincoln all-conference and fourth team All-State selection, Wallaert will join a Forester program that went 12-11 in Tills’ first season at the helm. Tills spent the six previous seasons at Concordia University in Chicago.

A three-year letter winner at the Hall, Wallaert averaged 9.9 points and 6.7 rebounds as a senior. She saved her best for conference play, averaging 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals per game in NCIC games over her junior and senior years. She finished her career as the fourth-leading scorer in team history with 762 points.

As a junior she earned the team’s Miss Hustle Award and was named second team all-NCIC Lincoln and honorable mention all-state while helping lead the team to conference and regional championships.

The Hall senior also played volleyball and throws the shot put on the track team.

In addition to her exploits on the court, Wallaert was named to the NCIC’s All-Academic First Team each of the last two years.

Lake Forest College is a national liberal arts institution with 1,400 students representing 45 states and 69 countries.
