LADD — A Ladd chiropractor is providing free service to veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.

Jason Lafferty of Ladd Family Chiropractic, 206 N. Main Ave., Ladd, has joined with others chiropractors around the country through the International Chiropractors Association to participate in this program.

“I feel drawn to this volunteer program for multiple reasons,” said Lafferty, a 1995 graduate of Princeton High School and a 2003 graduate of Palmer College.

“I feel that the office is my ‘mission field’ and as a Christian, I desire to help as many people as possible, and not solely for monetary gain,” he added.

“Our veterans don’t always receive the respect and appreciation that they deserve,” he said. “This is one way I can give back to the men and women off our armed forces.”

Lafferty, who doesn’t belong to the ICA, said he feels this program is a good service to the guys and ladies serving our country in the armed forces. They will receive free treatment for one year from chiropractors in the program.

This program is in addition to the limited programs officially available through the U.S. Department of Defense that has been the subject of scathing criticism due to its inadequacy to treat the problems they receive during their deployment, according to a press release issued by Dr. R.J. Kelly, the ICA’s southern regional director who initiated this program in his own personal practice.

The closest chiropractor to Lafferty’s office in Ladd participating in the volunteer program is in Shabbona.

The goal of chiropractic is to detect and correct spinal “subluxations” that affect a persona’s ability to function well, said Lafferty. This may manifest via many symptoms such as low back pain, neck pain, headaches and various other symptoms.

Veterans wanting to contact Lafferty’s office can call him at (815) 894-9400 or go to the ICA’s Web site at www.chiropractic.org to see the roster of doctors of chiropractic participating in this volunteer program.
