AMARILLO, Texas — C. Arnold Ross, 79, of Amarillo, Texas, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

Born July 8, 1929, in Galva to Clyde A. and Mae Ross, he married Beverly A. Whaton June 6, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Walnut. She survives.

His family lived in Bishop Hill until moving to Princeton, where he entered school. After graduation from high school, he attended college at New Mexico Western and later at Western Illinois University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He entered the Army in 1951 and was stationed in Korea for 18 months before returning to the states for his discharge. Upon graduation from college, he and his wife moved to Denver, Colo., where he began a 36-year career with General Motors Acceptance Corp. After several career moves, he was designated control branch manager at San Antonio in 1978 where he retired in 1991.

Also surviving are one daughter, Barbara Brewton; one sister, Carol Haney of League City, Texas; two brothers, Stephen Ross of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jon Ross of Ottawa; two grandsons, Craig and Matt Brewton; and four great-grandchildren, Sam, Ryder, Presley and Sara of Amarillo, Texas.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Howard; and one sister, Dorothy Anderson.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, Texas.

Memorials may be directed to cancer research or a local humane society.
