Ladd Summer Fest announces schedule

LADD — The Ladd Community Improvement Association has announced the 2009 Ladd Summer Fest schedule.

This event begins July 8, with Family Night, which includes a movie night and talent show. To sign up for the talent show call, Mary Ann Hocking (815) 894-2092. The junior division is for age 12 and under and the senior division is age 13 and over. There will be cash prizes awarded.

July 9, Johnnie Kaye and his orchestra will be perform at 7 p.m. in Ladd Memorial Park.The food and beer stand will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. This is a free event, bring lawn chairs.

July 10, children’s games are available, along with the food and a beer stand that opens at 5 p.m. At 6:30 p.m. it’s the Ladd Family Feud game with local families competing against each other. And at 9 p.m. the band “Wake The Sheep” will be performing on stage, under the tent, in Ladd Memorial Park. The beer garden will be open until midnight.

July 11, there will be a quilt show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ladd School Library on Cleveland Street . This year’s show includes a special guest, Mary Jane (Flaherty) Serafini, who is a certified AQS quilt appraiser. She will be taking appointments to appraise and value a limited number of quilts.

Other July 11 activities include a craft show and farmer’s market. Anyone interested in participating should contact Molly Thrasher at (815) 894-2619. The stand will be open from 11a.m to 5 p.m. The beer garden will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight. There will be a pet parade at 11 a.m.

Organizer Jim “Scoop” Miller is bringing back Ladd chicken to the Memorial Park. Chicken dinners will be available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. At 1 p.m. the Amazing Golden Chicken Race will begin. Details will be announced later. Also at 1 p.m. a BAG-O tournament has been added for the over 21 crowd. From 1 to 3 p.m. Patti Cake the clown will be in the park, there’s a cake walk at 2 p.m. and at 3 p.m. there will be an ice cream eating contest under the food tent.
