Golfers come out for Jimmy D

Golfers enjoyed a good day for golfing Sunday in the 27th annual Jimmy D Golf Day at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley and Deer Park Country Club in Oglesby.
The outing is held each year in memory of the late Jimmy DeAngelo. Several of Jimmy D’s grandchildren were in attendance to welcome the golfers to Spring Creek. Proceeds will benefit the future DeAngelo mammography suite at St. Margaret’s Hospital.
The winning team in Spring Creek was made up of Tom Belshaw, Dan Cerny, Kyle Kickert, Tim Paddock, Nick Potthoff and Grey Schley with a 51. There was a tie for second place at 57 with the team of Pat Delany, Chris Duffy, Keith Hogan, Randy Koehler, Mark Lamboley and Jon Pohar and the team of Eric Bubelis, Brad Derix, Joe Perona, Alan Robinson, Paul Robinson and Chris Wertz.
Paul Robinson took the longest drive on No. 17, while Dan Donahue claimed closest to pin on No. 18.
• Hoffman Benefit: The first Doug Hoffman Benefit will be held Saturday at Indian Hills Golf Club in Tiskilwa in memory of Doug Hoffman, who passed away June 24 from cancer. The four-man scramble will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start. For more information, call (815) 646-8024.
• Strouse Memorial: The Ted Strouse Memorial Golf Outing will be held July 25 at Hidden Lake Country Club in Sheffield. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Bureau Valley School Foundation. Packages include: Golf, cart and dinner or a dinner-only reservation.

• Course records: Carrie Riordan recently set the course record from the blue tees (73) at Spring Creek. Carol Balconi holds the women’s record from the white tees (67), Mary Dagraedt from the white tees (75). Course record holders for the men include Jack Feliksiak and Fred Steele from the white tees (64) and Jim Moskalewicz from the blue tees (73).
• Tiger Classic: The Princeton High School Booster Club Tiger Classic will be held July 25 at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course. Registration starts at 11 a.m. with a noon shotgun start. For more information, call co-chairs Randy Quanstrom at (815) 872-0324 or Les Youngren at (815) 875-2613.
• Wyaton Hills roundup: Play of the Day for the Wyaton Ladies Day was subtract high and low holes. Millie Dean won with a 38, including 12 putts. Barb Brumbaugh and Dorothy Oaks tied for second at 41 ... Scott Cumpton had a low gross 39 in Monday’s two-man league. The Rowley-Garvin team carded the low net of 27.
• Hunter’s Ridge roundup: Inez Hale scored low gross (48), and Sheila Rithmiller had low net (48) for the Hunter’s Ridge Ladies. Hale also chipped in for a birdie on No. 6, with Helen Kinney scoring a birdie on No. 4. The Provisionals stand in first place, followed by the Unplayable Lies and the Lateral Hazards.
• Spring Creek roundup: Top junior golfers in last week’s league play of the day for odd holes included Payton Linig (25) and John Potthoff (15) for ages 6-8 (five holes), Tess Montez (18) and James Russell for ages 9-11, Kalie Sudaj (31) and Peter Mautino (20) and Bekki Prokup and Nick Mertes for ages 14-17.
Upcoming junior golf dates at Spring Creek include the Country Insurance and Financial Tournament on July 27, the Spring Creek Member Tournament on July 31 and the Illinois Valley Junior Golf Championship on Aug. 3.

• Chip shots: Deadline to register for the IV Women’s Golf Open to be held Aug. 9 at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course in Princeton is coming up.
