BRANFORD, Conn. — George Joseph Pohanka Jr., 53, of Branford, Conn., died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, Conn.

He was born Aug. 28, 1955, in Berwyn, Ill., to George and Alice (Killian) Pohanka Sr.

He graduated from Princeton High School in 1973 and from Illinois State University in 1977. He was a CPA and worked out of his home for many companies including Pacific Financial.

Surviving are his mother of Princeton; one sister, Alison (Glen) Bailey of Michigan; one brother, John (Judy) Pohanka of Chenoa; three nephews, Sean and Ryan Bailey, and Austin Pohanka; and a special friend, Rosalyn Beski, and her children, Walter and Caitlin.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1967; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and one uncle.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. June 27 at the First Presbyterian Church, Princeton, with the Rev. Bea Hoover-Mulvany officiating. Burial will be private and at a later date. Cremation has been accorded.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

The Norberg Memorial Home in Princeton was in charge of local arrangements.
