Train hits car near Tiskilwa

TISKILWA — The Bureau County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a train hitting a car east of Tiskilwa at 6:38 p.m. June 4.
According to the sheriff’s department, Jeremy W. Newbury, 22, of Putnam was crossing the railroad tracks near 2050 East Street and 1030 North Avenue when his vehicle was struck by a train on the passenger side door. Newbury was pushed by the train for 48.4 feet before being pushed into a ditch, where his vehicle came to rest on the passenger side.
Newbury, who was not seriously injured, was transported to Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. He was charged with operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and not having a valid driver’s license.
