Princeton F.C. improves to 8-1

Wyatt Lind scored a pair a goals to help lead the Princeton Football Club to a 5-2 win over T Neza in the DePue Summer Soccer League play.

Lind got the scoring started with the club’s first goal off assists from Jason Englehart and David Gray. Scott Jackson set up Austin Williams for Princeton F.C.’s second goal of the contest.

Lind picked up what proved to be the winning goal, his second of the contest, off another assist from Gray. Both Jason Englehart and Bryan Jackson added unassisted insurance goals

Princeton F.C. (8-1) sits on top of their three-team division in the 12-team league, and in second place overall. Their next game will be played against LaSalle at City-County Park in Princeton, Saturday at 6 p.m.

American Legion Baseball

It was the Sean Walker show Thursday for the Henry County Senior American Legion. The Annawan product went 5-5, including a double in the bottom of the eighth inning to score his brother Heath for the game-winning run in a 5-4 victory Thursday in Geneseo

Sean Walker had two doubles and three RBIs. Princeton’s Drew Compton also doubled.

Bureau Valley’s Sam Lowers and Mineral’s Dillon Foes had one hit apiece in the Henry County Junior team’s 12-2 win over AlWood.

Major League girls softball

Spring Valley II 9, Apollo Theater Princeton Cardinals 4: Deidra Whightsil broke open the game with a three-run homer down the left field line in the bottom of the fourth inning Thursday in Spring Valley.

Spring Valley I 10, Apollo Theater Princeton Cardinals 0: Vanessa Olivares pitched a five-inning shutout, striking out 10. Jade Purvis and Sophia Suarez had the only Princeton hits

Anna Maria’s Princeton Tigers 21, Mendota Gromans 8: Winning pitcher Rebecca Hult singled, doubled and tripled Monday in Mendota. Hult also had two doubles in a 15-4 loss to Spring Valley’s St. Margaret’s Wednesday at Princeton.
