Three vie for Wyanet royalty

WYANET — Three Bureau Valley High School girls are competing for the title of Wyanet Summer Festival Queen. The 2009 queen will be crowned July 9 at Wyanet Memorial Park.

Monica Moon is the 16-year-old daughter of Trish and Matt Moon of Wyanet. Her school activities include cheerleading, president of German Club, Home Economics Club and Student Council. She is looking forward to gymnastics over the summer and the start of a great cheerleading season for the 2009-10 school year. She is also helping to plan a trip to Germany for the German Club during the summer of 2010. She has babysat and detassled corn. After high school, she wants to attend college.

Ashley Walters is the 16-year-old daughter of Cathie and Tom Walters of Wyanet. She is secretary of the Home Economics Club, was a former Girl Scout and has played softball since T-ball league. She enjoys writing poetry, cooking and sewing. She is planning on making her own dress for homecoming this year. She has babysat and plans on attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago majoring in fashion design and merchandising.

Whitney Cole of Wyanet is the 16-year-old daughter of Jamie and Tina Cole. During the past school year, she has been on the volleyball and softball teams. She does babysitting and works at Culver’s restaurant in Princeton. For several years, she has helped serve at the Wyanet Community Club annual senior citizen Christmas dinner. After high school, she plans on a career as a hair stylist.

The contestants will be judged on personality, vocal presentation, interviewing ability, poise, a question that is drawn from a basket and the evening gown competition. Personal interviews with the judges will take place on the afternoon of July 9.
