To the Editor,

This spring a prominent Republican is reported to have said, “People want to pay higher taxes.”

Perhaps so, but the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party protest people are not among that group. An effort has been made to discredit these people as kooks. Here in Princeton, I have heard that the TEA Party scheduled for the courthouse at 9 a.m. Saturday has been planned by people who want to cut off funding for Gateway Services.

Nothing could be further from the truth. This is a false rumor and a vicious one besides, on a par with those who say TEA Party people are kooks, nuts and troublemakers. TEA Party protesters are opposed to higher spending at all levels: local, state and national.

Recently, we have experienced a move by our elected representatives in Springfield that after a careful review (they did do a careful review, didn’t they?) of the entire state budget, the only place the budget could be cut is the part that supports those least able to defend themselves: young children, abused women, the handicapped and etc. Shame on them.

Our local government wants to spend money on a new courthouse, etc., and our federal government is now making cars and running banks.

What next?
