SHERIDAN — Harold Allen Schallhorn, 79, of rural Sheridan died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Ottawa Regional Hospital after an extended illness.
Born June 6, 1930, in rural Zearing to Fred and Marguerite (Atherton) Schallhorn, he married Lillian Bastian Dec. 3, 1999. She survives.
He farmed for 43 years. He was a graduate of Hall High School and attended Cherry Junior High School. He owned and operated Schallhorn Insulation and Building Contractors.
He was a member of the Fox River Lutheran Church in Norway, Ill., and served on the church board. He had been a past president of the Bureau County Farm Bureau.
Also surviving are four children, Greg (Dana) Schallhorn of Princeton, Mark (Sharon) Schallhorn of LaMoille, Pam Skerston of Peru and Valerie (Charles) Witzman of Lostant; two stepchildren, Debbie (Kenny) Larson of Texas and Cindy (Brent) Harney of Newark; six siblings, Louise (George) Kuetzer of Arlington, Raymond (Rheta) Schallhorn of LaMoille, Marguerite (Harlan) Bradner and Ruth (Harold) Pinter, both of Ladd, Janice (Donald) Chaon of Wisconsin and Helen Schallhorn of Ottawa; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Lou Schallhorn; and two brothers, Charles and George Schallhorn.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fiocchi Funeral Home, Cherry, with the Rev. Kevin Garner of the Fox River Lutheran Church in Norway, Ill., officiating. Burial will be in the Peru City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
