LAMOILLE — Daryl L. Ecklund, 87, of LaMoille died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Colonial Hall Care Center in Princeton.

Born Jan. 18, 1922, in LaMoille Township to Oscar and Maysie (Scott) Ecklund, he married Joan A. Bauer Feb. 20, 1948, in LaMoille. She survives.

He was a 1941 graduate of LaMoille High School. He was employed by Wayside Press in Mendota for 29 years before retiring in 1986. He served with the U.S. Army, 9th Field Artillery, 3rd Infantry Division, from 1942 to 1945.

He was a member of Community United Methodist Church in LaMoille.

Also surviving are one daughter, Christine (Lee) Wright of Mendota; two sons, Gordon (Normaine) Ecklund of Simpsonville, S.C., and Jon (Claire) Ecklund of Westminister, Colo.; two brothers, Robert (Norma) Ecklund of Las Cruces, N.M., and Marvin (Delores) Ecklund of Peru; and one sister, Marjorie Schwabenland of LaMoille; five grandchildren, Michael (Susan) Ecklund, Brian (Stephani) Ecklund, Scott Ecklund, Erika Ecklund and Alexandra Ecklund; and four great-grandchildren, Brandon and Sydney Ecklund, and Olivia and Sophia Ecklund.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clifford.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Martha Wendel-Caputo officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery, LaMoille, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 4079.

Visitation will be Monday from noon until the time of services at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to LaMoille Ambulance or Community United Methodist Church in LaMoille.
