Bureau Valley schools registration set for July 28-30

MANLIUS — Bureau Valley Unit Schools will hold district-wide registration at the high school from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 28 and from noon to 7 p.m. on July 29 and July 30.

All Bureau Valley students are to register at the high school, including all special needs students who are residents in the Bureau Valley District but attend classes in another district.

Parents or guardians are requested to not bring their elementary or preschool children to the registration, if at all possible. All high school students are encouraged to attend in order to verify the accuracy of their schedules.

All students entering kindergarten, sixth or ninth grade are required to have complete physical examinations and evidence of having had proper immunizations. Students entering Bureau Valley District form another district for the first time are required to present compete physical exam forms, immunization records and a certified birth certificate. Hospital certificates cannot be accepted.

The Bureau County Department of Public Health will have a nurse present from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the July 28 registration day to provide immunizations needed by any student. The cost of each immunization is $10. The cost is covered by medical card/public aid for anyone who is unable to pay the cost due to hardship. No one will be denied service.

A state mandate requires all students entering kindergarten, second and sixth grades to have completed dental examinations.

The Bureau County Dental Clinic will hold a dental sealant clinic from noon to 7 p.m. July 29 and Aug. 19 at the clinic located at 526 Bureau Valley Parkway in Princeton. Walk-ins are accepted until 5:30 p.m., but you are asked to call for an appointment at (815) 872-1927. The program includes school exams, cleaning and sealant, and is provided for children who qualify for free and reduced lunches, children with public aid, KidCare or All Kids, or children not covered by private dental insurance. All students registering will need to present a social security number and 9-1-1 address, if applicable. The 2009-10 student handbooks and district policy on the administration of medicine will be distributed. The random drug testing policy for all students in grades nine-12 who will be participating in extra-curricular activity will also be distributed.
