LAMOILLE — Carroll W. Van Norden, 72, of LaMoille died Monday, July 27, 2009, at his home.

Born March 18, 1937, in Grinnell, Iowa, to Casey J. and Leona (Wynn) Van Norden, he married Gladys Ward April 20, 2002, in LaMoille. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Army for several years, being honorably discharged in 1966. He was employed as a truck driver for 36 years before retiring. He was a musician with two traveling bands, The Moonlighters and The Vagabonds.

Also surviving are one daughter, Jackie (John Leeper) Meyer of Blairstown, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Deborah (Bill) Bradley of LaMoille; two stepsons, Jim (Andrea) Schwingle of Peru and Dave (Maryanne) Schwingle of LaMoille; one brother, Ray (Sharon) Van Norden of Belle Plain, Iowa; three sisters, Joyce (Cliff) Anthony of Brooklyn, Iowa, Mary (George) Gutierrez of DeKalb and Connie (Jim) Kasel of Belle Plain, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Community United Methodist Church, LaMoille, with the Rev. Martha Wendel-Caputo officiating. Burial will be in Greenfield Cemetery, LaMoille, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 4079.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Merritt Funeral Home in Mendota.
