March of Dimes benefit
OGLESBY — Illinois Valley Community College graphic design program coordinator Francie Skoflanc will be one of the artists presenting painted martini glasses for the fourth annual March of Dimes Artini Fest and All That Jazz, Aug. 14 at Senica’s Oak Ridge Golf Club. The event will feature a cocktail reception, creative works of local artists, a silent auction and a live jazz concert. Nut and candy sale
SPRING VALLEY — A nut and candy sale, sponsored by St. Margaret’s Auxiliary, will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 11 in the lower lobby of St. Margaret’s Hospital. More than 60 varieties of nuts, chocolates, dried fruits and candies will be available for reasonable prices. Bloodmobile
PRINCETON — The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will have a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 12 in the fourth-floor Multi-Purpose Room at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Donors who last gave blood on or before June 17 are eligible. A blood donor card or other photo I.D. is required to donate; 16-year-old donors must present a signed parental consent form. Bible school
MALDEN — The Malden First United Methodist Church invites all children to this summer’s Vacation Bible School, “Son Rock Kids Camp — Where Kids Build Their Life on the Rock: Jesus!”
The school, for ages 3 through fifth grade, will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each night starting Monday and continuing through Friday. Family members are invited to participate each evening at 7:30 p.m.
The camp also provides a practical way to show God’s love through a mission project. The community is invited to join with the children and the congregation in support of the mission project, Nothing But Nets. Nothing But Nets is a cooperative effort of several agencies and foundations including the NBA and Major League Soccer that provides insecticide-treated bed nets for families in Africa to sleep under to prevent malaria. Fundraiser set
SPRING VALLEY — St. Margaret’s Auxiliary will host a fundraising event featuring a truckload sale of more than 300 Schwan’s food products from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the hospital’s north parking lot. A portion of the sales will benefit the Auxiliary.
Bible school
PRINCETON — Three local churches have joined to offer a Vacation Bible School for preschool children to the fifth grade from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Monday and running through Aug. 7 at First Christian Church in Princeton. The theme for the event is “Kingdom of the Son” A Prayer Safari. The Vacation Bible School is held in conjunction with First Presbyterian Church St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and First Christian Church.
Medieval Faire
PERU — St. Bede Academy will host a Medieval Faire from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. The family-friendly event, which began in 1993, features many affordable games and activities. A highlight this year is the play “Fairies and Trolls,” with performances at 1:30 and 4 p.m. Food booths will be available. Admission is $1.50 for adults and $1 for children over 5. In case of rain, the Faire will be held in the Abbot Vincent Gym.
Postponement
PRINCETON — The Farmer’s Market cooking demo, normally scheduled for the first Tuesday of the month, has been postponed until 9 a.m. Saturday. The demo is free to the public, samples included.
