PRINCETON — The Prairie Arts Council hosted a “Kids Art in the Park” program Aug. 1 followed by an art show on Aug. 2.
Two art sessions were held. In the morning, children in grades 2-5 created art works using texture boards and crayons to learn about the concept of texture art drawing. In the afternoon, children in grades 6-8 created charcoal portraits of Abraham Lincoln with Bob Telfer posing as Abraham Lincoln. The children also prepared their own display boards for their art works that were on display on Sunday afternoon.
The two art programs were presented by two local art instructors. Mary Michael taught art at the DePue Schools for 25 years and currently teaches art lessons in a number of schools in Bureau County. She has a master’s degree in art education from Illinois State University. Deb Young is the director of the Prairie Art Center’s Youth Art League, was the owner of Ann Thomas Gallery in Princeton and was one of the co-founders of the Prairie Arts Council.
This free art program was funded by a grant from the Sun Foundation, the Prairie Arts Council and the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
