Retirement tea
PRINCETON — The medical rehabilitation department at Perry Memorial Hospital will host a retirement tea for Doris Streit from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 3 in the hospital cafeteria. Doris is retiring from PMH after 35 years of service.
Community coffee
SHEFFIELD — The First United Church of Christ in Sheffield will host its monthly community coffee from 7 to 10 a.m. Sept. 5 at the UCC Parish Hall. Fresh-baked cinnamon rolls will be served.
Freedom rally
PRINCETON — A Freedom Rally to promote rights and retain liberties will be at 10 a.m. Sept. 5 at Soldiers and Sailors Park in Princeton. Everyone is invited to gather to exercise their freedom of speech and assembly.
Parade entries
PRINCETON — The deadline for parade entries for the 2009 Lovejoy Homestead Festival parade is Wednesday. To request an application, contact Deb Kirley at Edward Jones Investments at (815) 875-6565. Registration forms are also available at the Princeton Chamber of Commerce and Main Street office or may be downloaded at www.homesteadfestival.com. This theme for this year’s festival is “Princeton’s Flashback to the ‘80s.” The parade will step off at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 12.
Blood drive
PRINCETON — The Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center will hold a blood drive from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 in the fourth-floor multi-purpose room at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Donors who last gave blood on or before July 9 are eligible. To donate, call (800) 747-5401, ext. 119.
Sweet corn sale
PRINCETON — The Princeton Optimist Club will be selling sweet corn over the next few weeks to help finance Optimist Youth Projects such as the recent Junior Golf Tournament, the annual Easter egg hunt and the Halloween party. The corn, picked fresh daily, will be sold in the parking lot of Gustafson’s Ace Hardware.
Rehab reunion
HENRY — Heartland Health Care Center will host its annual “Rehab Reunion” at 3 p.m. Thursday. The center is inviting former patients who have graduated from the rehabilitation program to join together again for a celebration. The event, called “Rockin’ Rehab Reunion,” will be a ‘50s themed event, offering participants a chance for reminiscing, root beer floats, prizes and music of the ‘50s.
