Pie baking contest

PRINCETON — Bureau County Home and Community Education Association will sponsor a “Make it with Lard” pie baking contest Sept. 12 at Soldiers and Sailors Park during this year’s Homestead Festival. All pies should be taken to the park by 9 a.m. and will be auctioned off, starting with the winning pies, at noon. Persons may enter as many pies as they wish, however, prizes are limited to one per person. The pies must be a two-crust pie and the crust must be made with lard and in a disposable pan. Recipes for both crust and filling must be submitted with the pie. There is a special category for contestants 18 and younger. There is no advance entry requirement and no entry fee.
