Lunch in the Park

PRINCETON — Lunch in the Park will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Soldiers and Sailors Park in Princeton. Liberty Village will serve the meat and the Princeton DAR will have a bake sale.

Community bingo

PRINCETON — Orchard View Rehabilitation and Health Care will host a “Community Bingo” at 2 p.m. Sept. 23. This will be an afternoon of playing bingo, socializing with friends, enjoying refreshments and winning prizes.

Beautification benefit

SPRING VALLEY — A beautification benefit featuring singer Dick Banks with Todd Witek and The Olive Martini Band will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the downtown mini park. The event will include a beer garden, food vendors, 50/50, raffles and children’s games. Proceeds will go toward downtown beautification projects, including sidewalk repair, re-landscaping bump outs and the mini park parking area.

Townwide sales

WYANET — Townwide yard sales in Wyanet will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Woodcrafters meeting

PRINCETON — The Woodcrafters Unlimited Association will meet Thursday at the Bureau County Senior Citizens Center, 16 W. Marion St. in Princeton. Show and tell will start at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. The program for the evening will be put on by Dave Sawitoski and Robert Schmidt about the development of Model Airplane building, from stick and paper to radio control. All meetings are open to the public.

Dog walk, fun fair

PRINCETON — Friends of Strays will have its 11th annual dog walk and fun fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Soldiers and Sailors Park in Princeton. Registration will be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. There will be fun, food and games for the dogs and their people. There will also be a “best dressed” contest and best shedder competition. Dogs will be able to create their own “arfwork” at this year’s event. For more information, call the shelter at (815) 872-7387.

BCGS meeting

PRINCETON — Barbara Draper will present a PowerPoint presentation of “A Small Town — A Touching Story” at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Bureau County Genealogical Society Library at 629 S. Main St. in Princeton. The program was prepared by Shane Bohbrink on his adventure in getting to the small village of Cirey, France, and his visit with people there. Cirey is the place where Shane’s grand-uncle, Cpl. James Draper, was killed in action on Sept. 9, 1944, while serving in World War II with Co. M, 7th Infantry, 3rd Division of the U.S. Army. Shane is the grandson of Bob and Barbara Draper of Ohio.
