Tigresses capture Coal City Quad

The Princeton Tigresses made a clean sweep of the Coal City Quad tennis tournament with first-place finishes in all five divisions.
Evinne Dimmig won the No. 1 singles and Tristan Hicks took the No. 2 singles, both scoring 30 points.
The doubles teams of Emiley Brand and Michaela Nelson (No. 1), Courtney Schafer and Lindsey Frank (No. 2) and Baily Beaber and Mandi Morrow (No. 3) all scored 30 points for first-place finishes.
“The girls knew what they wanted to accomplish and they took care of business,” PHS coach Connie Lind said.
It is the Tigresses’ second tournament championship of the season, having also won the Sterling Newman tournament.
Volleyball
At Morrison: The visiting Storm outlasted Morrison in three close sets, 27-25, 21-25, 26-4, to come up with the TRAC-8 conference victory on the road. Lauren Hasbrook turned in a monster performance for the Storm netting 17 kills with four digs and three blocks. Sam Shephard tallied 28 assists, Meghan Mussche had 13 digs and Gabby Fisch finished with eight kills, four blocks and a pair of digs to pace the Storm (4-3, 2-0 ). The Storm sophs won 25-6, 25-21, and the freshman Storm also triumphed.
At Ohio: The host LaMoille/Ohio Lady Lions lost to Henry 25-13, 19-25 on Tuesday. Raeann Coughlin tallied 7 service points with nine digs, Haley Stouffer added four points, as well as three kills and three assists and Mary Bartoli registered seven digs and four kills in the losing effort.
At DePue: The host Lady Giants fell to the visiting Lady Huskers of Serena, 25-15, 25-14. First-year DePue coach Erin Duffy said that her squad gave a valiant effort but came up short, and that she is happy with the team’s improvement so far this season.
Junior high volleyball
At Paw Paw: Ohio defeated LaMoille 25-27, 25-16, 15-8 to capture the Paw Paw Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Sept. 5.
At Walnut: The visiting Bureau Valley South squad topped their BV North counterparts 25-21, 25-3. Leading scorers for South were Shelby Weborg (7) and Jazmine Huber (6). BVS also won the seventh-grade game 25-5, 25-16.
Golf
At Hunter’s Ridge: The host Tigresses topped Wethersfield 231-257 Tuesday in Princeton. Alizabeth Fiorini was the meet medalist, shooting a 54 on the par 36 front nine. Other Princeton golfers included Jessica Headley (57), Torrie Searle (58), Taylor Williams (62) and Dacia Nelson (69). Kyle Juequet led the way for Wethersfield, shooting a 63.
At Spring Creek: The Hall Red Devils defeated Princeton 166-170 behind medalist Nick Rounds (37). Also scoring for the Red Devils Ben Dagraedt (40), Cody Kirkman (42) and Dean Colmone (47).
For Princeton, Collin Slattery shot a 39, Cole Evenson a 41, Eric Bickett a 42 and Cody Cumpton and Austin Hellman each a 48.
Cross Country
At Spring Valley: The host Red Devils boys’ team took top honors with a 41, topping Fieldcrest (51), Kewanee (66), Princeton (77), St. Bede (141) and Putnam County on Tuesday. Red Devils Scott Janusick (16:25.3) and TJ Mosbach (16:37) finished 1-2 for Hall. Other Hall scorers were Austin Pelszynski (10th, 18:23), Brett Herrmann (13th, 18:45) and Brandon Allen (15th, 19:23).
Jacob Mead led the way for Princeton, coming in sixth at 17:58. Other Tigers scorers were Zach Kieffer (8th, 18:12), Zach Holmbeck (16th, 19:35), Kyle Arnett (22nd, 20:23) and Greg Musselman (25th, 20:50).
Simon Ligas paced the Bruins of St. Bede with a 12th-place finish (18:41), rounding out the Academy’s roster were Dominic Fanti (29th, 21:35), Connor Armstron (32, 22:07), Ayethaw Tun (38th, 22:50) and Matt Gualandri (39th, 23:02.
St. Bede captured the girls’ crown with a team score of 36, topping Hall (55), Princeton (63), Fieldcrest (89) and Putnam County (90). Elizabeth Mosbach of Hall finished first at 21:14, and St. Bede’s Lucy Stanke came in second at 22:21. Stanke’s teammates Kayla MacDavitt (4th, 23:11), Julia Jackson (9th, 25:14), Hannah Read (11th, 25:23) and Jena Ebener (16th 26:26), combined to give the Lady Bruins three top-10 finishers and the team win.
Hall’s Amber Huffaker (7th, 24:32), Xuxa Piotrowski (14th, 26:13), Gabby Dhesse (18th, 27:11) and Kristina Acamovic (22nd, 28:17) rounded out Hall’s scorers.
Princeton’s top finisher was Alix Forristall, who entered the chute fifth at 23:37. Also scoring for the Tigresses were Nicole Vitale (10th, 25:15), Trisha Smith (13th 26:12), Kathryn Krieger (19th, 27:42) and Sarah Maynard (24th, 28:39).
At Oregon: The Storm boys’ team had all five scorers place in the top 10 and won a tie breaker with Rock Falls to win the five team meet that also included Morris, Rochelle and Ottawa, with a score of 34. Derrick Johnson led BV with a fifth-place finish (17:00), Nate Devenney finished fifth (17:24) and the Storm captured the eighth through 10th positions with Ryan Johnson (17:39), Cody Taylor (18:19) and Trent Johnson (18:22). Kenny Catton came in 12th (18:39) to provide the Storm with the tie-breaker.
The Storm ladies finished fourth (85) with Rochelle (36) topping the five-team field. Megan Russell (12th, 23:11) led the way for BV with Amber Day (16th, 24:170, Cassie Olson (17th, 24:22, Miriam Zimmerman (24:25) and Hannah Shearburn (21st, 24:44) hot on her heels.
