Some familiar faces are wearing club championship crowns from two local golf courses.

Carrie Riordan and Jim Moskalewicz took top honors at Spring Creek in Spring Valley, while Karen Taylor reigned at Hidden Lake Country Club in Sheffield.

Moskalewicz won his second straight men’s title at Spring Creek. Last year, he became the first junior champ (‘79) at Spring Creek to later win the club crown in 37 years.

It’s certainly no surprise to see Riordan crowned at Spring Creek. It is a surprise it is the very first SCGC title for the aspiring pro golfer.

Though playing often at Spring Creek and setting the course record this summer, Riordan let her membership lapse after high school and signed on at Deer Park in Oglesby. Club runner-up and defending champ Kathy Potthoff said it was nice to have Riordan back on board.

“She was asked to consider playing in our club championship, since she is undoubtedly the best player we’ve seen come through Spring Creek,” said Potthoff, a seven-time SCGC champ.

Riordan departed Friday for Palm Springs, Calif., to attend the LPGA Q School qualifier.

Other flight winners at Spring Creek are Mark Dagraedt and Barb Mertes (A), Dale Mertes and Connie Banks (B) and Connie Eich (C). Runners-up are Eric Acuncius and Lorrie Kierski (A), Kim Nini and Pavia DeFoe (B) and Lil Ajster (C).

Junior champs are PC golfer Phillip Nanni and St. Bede’s Olivia Dean.

Taylor (128) beat out Sally Riley (132) for her third club title at Hidden Lake. Taylor said she was happy with her scores but could have had another 42, had it not been for a “little tree trouble” on hole No. 8.

Margie Palmer shot a 146 for the A flight title to edge Patsy DeFauw and Dorine Motley, who each shot a 147 and were to have a playoff. One stroke won the B Flight for Barb Peterson (163) over Janice Mueller (164) while Shirley Rakestraw won C Flight by three over Peggy Tautkus, 175-178.

Hunter’s Ridge scramble: The Princeton club held a ladies fall scramble, inviting area golfers. Flight winners include Inez Hale and Margaret Ringenberg of Hunter’s Ridge, Sally Riley and Terry Hoelle of Hidden Lake, Lorraine Schwallenberg and Jon Torrance of Hunter’s Ridge and Donna Reed and Mae Britt of Hunter’s Ridge/Hidden Lake.
