PRINCETON — A Preschool Story Hour will take place at the Princeton Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, and the theme will be community helpers. The program will be held in the Youth Services Department, and preschool children and their parents or guardians are welcome to attend.

Youth Services will celebrate the birthday of author Roald Dahl throughout the month of September. Each Tuesday, Rachel Bystry will read chapters from one of Dahl’s books from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Each Wednesday, Youth Services will show a Dahl movie at 3:30 p.m.

SPRING VALLEY — The Richard A. Mautino Memorial Library will hold story times featuring author Kate McMullan Tuesdays throughout September. From 6 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, there will be a guest reader for “I Stink!” the story of a garbage truck.

MINERAL — The Book Discussion at the Mineral Gold Library will meet on Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Contact the library for more information.

SHEFFIELD — During these tough economic times, your local library is still a great bargain! The library remains a wonderful source of entertainment, technological resources, printing and copying services, just to name a few.

The Sheffield Public Library staff is diligently working to update and improve its collection, in order to provide patrons with the books, movies and magazines they want. Space is at a premium in the building that was built in May 1913, before it had patron computers (with high speed Internet access), staff computers and multifunction machines. Through inter-library loan, patrons have access to not only our local library’s collection, but also to books and materials from several hundred libraries in the Prairie Area Library System. The Sheffield Public Library provides this service at no charge to patrons.

Unfortunately, times are tough at the library. The library’s expenses are increasing, and its income is not. Monetary donations are always appreciated at the Sheffield Public Library, and the library certainly appreciates all the memorial gifts that our community members and friends have given. Here is one more way patrons can help: On Sept. 25 and 26, during the Sheffield townwide garage sales, there will be a sale to benefit the library at 137 E. North St. There will also be delicious baked goods available. The sale will open both days at 8 a.m. Please come by and do some shopping to help one of your greatest local resources.
