Tigresses get even in NCIC

The Princeton Tigresses evened their conference record in the NCIC Lincoln at 2-2 with a 25-20, 25-16 win at Kewanee Thursday. They are 19-31 overall.

Sarah Maynard (8 kills), Lacey Jensen (7) and Jolyn Kane (6) led the hitting attack, supplied by the assists from setter Molly Stephens (21) and the digs by Sylvie Tracy (5), Stephens (5), Katlin Petersen (4) and Kane (4). Kane (8 points) and Tracy (7) led the scoring.

The PHS sophs won 25-11, 25-13 to improve to 12-1, 4-0, but Kewanee took the freshmen match 25-15, 25-14.

Paw Paw 2, LaMoille/Ohio 1: The Lady Lions couldn’t quite pull out the first match with Paw Paw Thursday, falling 25-27, and although they won the second (25-22), they dropped the third 19-25.

Erika Walzer led the Lady Lions (2-15, 0-5) with 10 kills and Laura Stouffer pumped in 10 points and three aces with 11 digs. Raeann Coughlin had a team-high 24 digs and added seven points and two aces.

Macee Monroe had 16 digs and seven points and Emily Kirby had 12 digs, eight points and six kills and McKenzie Billhorn had eight digs for L/O in a 25-22, 17-25, 19-25 loss.

St. Bede 2, Midland 0: The Lady Bruins made quick work of the Timberwolves Thursday with 25-7, 25-11 wins in Tri-County play at Varna. Kayla MacDavitt led the Lady Bruins (11-8-2, 5-1) with nine kills, four aces and eight points.

Marquette 2, DePue 0: DePue coach Erin Duffy admitted her Lady Giants felt a litle intimidated by the Tri-County Conference leaders going into Thursday’s match. The Little Giants got over that initial shock in 1 5-25 opener before taking the Cru to a 25-27 second set.

Girls’ golf

At Spring Creek: Bekki Prokup (45) and Katie Gregorich (46) lifted St. Bede (197) to victory over Somonauk (202) and Princeton (209) Wednesday at Spring Creek. Taylor Williams’ shot a personal best 50 to lead Princeton to its season low team score. Also scoring for PHS were Jessica Headley (52), Torrie Searle (53) and Alizabeth Fiorini (54).

Boys’ golf

At Snag Creek: Peoria Christian (330) captured Thursday’s Tri-County Conference championship by a 36-stroke margin of victory over Putnam County (366). Christian’s Kyle Gunther took medalist honors at 77 with Putnam County’s Phil Nanni second at 80.
