Annual meeting
PRINCETON — The annual meeting of the Bureau County Fair will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Allen Building at the fairgrounds. Life members are invited to attend. Directors from each of the townships in Bureau County will be elected and the 2009 Bureau County Fair will be reviewed.
Toy drive
PRINCETON — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will conduct its fourth annual toy drive Nov. 1-Dec. 12. Toys can be dropped off for children ages birth to 12 years at the Legion Post vestibule during this time. All toys collected will be distributed to children in Bureau County who are less fortunate. GFWC meeting
PRINCETON — The GFWC Woman’s Club of Princeton will meet at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 12 with a special program at the Bureau County Courthouse. Access to the courthouse meeting room is by entering the west door and taking the elevator to the second floor. There will be a presentation given by Bureau County Board member Rick Wilkin followed by a tour of the Bureau County Jail. The meeting will continue at the Prouty Building at about 2:30 p.m. with the club business meeting and social time. Annual supper
PRINCETON — American Legion Auxiliary Unit 125 of Princeton will hold its sixth annual ham supper from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 7 at the post home. The menu will include baked ham, potatoes, hot vegetables, dinner rolls, salads, coffee and iced tea. There will also be a 50/50 drawing. Tickets, which will be available at the door, are $7 for adults, $3 for ages 6-10. This is a major fundraiser for the Unit to continue its veterans programs for local and those troops overseas.

TAMPICO — The Tampico Area Historical Society will sponsor a “Mexican Train Domino” play time on Oct. 25 at the Tampico Community Building with play beginning at 4:30 p.m. A donation of $5 to play will include refreshments and door prizes. Ballroom dancing
PRINCETON — For the entire month of October, the Bureau County Senior Center will offer beginners ball room dancing lessons. Classes will be from 6 to 7:15 p.m. every Tuesday. To sign up, call the senior center at (815) 879-3981.
Cookout
PRINCETON — The Princeton Knights of Columbus will hold a cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Sullivan’s Foods in Princeton.
Benefit
PRINCETON — Sophisticuts Salon & Spa will team up with the Believe Cancer Foundation Sunday and donate their time and talent for the benefit of local cancer patients. They will offer $15 haircuts, manicures, pedicures, facials and massages with 100 percent of the proceeds to go toward customizing wigs for local cancer patients. Halloween parade
SPRING VALLEY — The annual Spring Valley Halloween parade, sponsored by the Spring Valley Lions Club, will be Oct. 24. Registration for the event will take place at the St. Margaret’s patient accounts parking lot from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. from the St. Margaret’s patient accounts parking lot on the west end of St. Paul Street. Costume judging and the prizes will be awarded at the newly renovated Spring Valley Mini Park after the parade. Children from Pre-K through sixth grade are encouraged to participate. In case of inclement weather, costume judging will be at the John F. Kennedy gymnasium at 1 p.m. Questions may be directed to Barb Fulara at (815) 663-1119.
Meeting
LASALLE — The Illinois Valley Center for Independent Living Peer Support Group meets the second Monday of each month from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 18 Gunia Drive in LaSalle. Consumers of IVCIL, their family and friends are welcome to discuss issues that are affecting them positively or negatively with their family, friends and/or community. They will meet Monday. Fright night
SPRING VALLEY — The third annual Hall Township Fright Night will be held from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 24 and Oct. 30 at Echo Bluff between Spring Valley and DePue off Route 29. The cost is $10 per person. Travel the trail of terror and join the fun around the bonfire with a storyteller and frightening ghouls, then go for a hayrack ride. Concessions available. Bingo
PRINCETON — The Princeton Elks Lodge will host Ol’e Fashion Bingo from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday. Enjoy sloppy joes, chips and endless soft drinks for $6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Players can play as many cards as they wish for $1 per card. Card purchase money will be divided up for the prize money.
Flea market
