At Orion: Bureau Valley rallied to defeat Farmington 8-21, 21-9, 15-11 to capture fifth place in Saturday’s Orion Tournament. At Orion: The Princeton Tigers defeated the host Chargers 3-0 to take third place in Saturday’s Orion Invitational.

Reiter Bird, who was named to the all-tournament team with teammate Scott Roseberg, scored twice in the first half to give the Tigers a 2-0 halftime lead.

Zach Rosene added another goal in the second half to ice the PHS victory.

Bird’s goal at 11:09 of the second half, with an assist from his brother, Reece, was all the scoring PHS keeper Nolan Piper would need for the Tigers in a 1-0 opening shutout over Oregon.

In their second game, the Tigers ran into NCIC adversary Sterling, which scored two first-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory, it’s second win of the season over PHS. Roseberg found the net for an unassisted second half goal to cut the Sterling lead to 2-1.

“Sterling seems to have our number,” PHS coach Jason Bird said.

Peoria Woodruff won the six-team tournament. PHS did not play either Woodruff or Byron.
