Awards reception
PRINCETON — Gateway Services Inc. will hold its annual awards reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church, 316 N. Church St., Princeton. Anyone wishing to join in the celebration of individuals with disabilities making great strides in achieving personal goals, honoring businesses and organizations for their support of individuals with disabilities, and honoring the Employer of the Year is welcome to attend. Cemetery clean up
DEPUE — St. Mary’s Cemetery in DePue will have a clean up of all spring/summer grave decorations. Everyone is asked to remove all decorations by Nov. 10 or they will be discarded.
Open house
PRINCETON — The Zearing Children Enrichment Center’s Afterschool Program (ZAP) will celebrate the nationwide “Lights on Afterschool.” The center will host an open house from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday. The public is invited to attend to see what ZAP has to offer. Light refreshments will be available.
Veterans assembly
BUDA — Bureau Valley South Elementary and Junior High School will be host a Veterans Day assembly at 1 p.m. Nov. 11 in the school gymnasium. Each grade level will give a special presentation to local veterans. Merle Horwedel will be the guest speaker and will give a short ceremony on flag burning. All veterans and the public are invited to attend this assembly.
Open house
PERU — Illinois Valley Community Hospital will host a public open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 29 to celebrate the opening of its new digital mammography suite. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded at the event.
Civil War event
PRINCETON — “Songs of the Civil War,” a family program in honor of the Lincoln Bicentennial will feature singer, songwriter and storyteller Bob Welch Oct. 24 at the Prairie Arts Center in Princeton. There will be a program at 3 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 or $10 at the door. Tickets are available at Johnson’s Carpet Shoppe and the Chamber of Commerce. The program is organized by the Shadows of the Blue and Gray to help fund the 2010 Civil War reenactment.
