Missing woman’s body found
TISKILWA — The body of a missing East Moline woman was found Thursday morning by a groundskeeper at Camp Menno Haven, west of Tiskilwa.
Alice Rodelius, 87, was reported missing Tuesday night after she drove to the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club restaurant for a supper club on the wrong day. Rodelius’s family told police she had recently moved from her Moline home to Park Vista Assisted Living in East Moline.
After leaving the supper club, neighbors saw her stop by her old home. They told police she looked confused, and then she left.
The Bureau County Sheriff’s Department and Bureau County Coroner Janice Wamhoff received the report of a deceased female at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Wamhoff said she believed Rodelius had left the Quad Cities Tuesday night and drove along Interstate 80 to the Princeton exit. Rodelius apparently got off the interstate at Princeton, followed Route 26 through town and ended up at the Menno Haven Camp and Retreat Center.
Menno Haven Came is located at 9301 1575 East Street.
A preliminary investigation indicates Rodelius drove around the office buildings and ended up driving on a walking path not intended for vehicles. Wamhoff said about halfway down the 1.5 mile path, there was an embankment and a wooden bridge. The bridge was wide enough for Rodelius to drive her white 2009 Toyota Corolla onto the bridge, but then her right front tire slipped off the bridge.
Wamhoff said it appeared Rodelius opened the driver’s door and slipped and fell the two feet to the ground. Her body was discovered Thursday by a groundskeeper, who was going out to trim some trees.
Wamhoff said there were no signs of any foul play, and an autopsy is tentatively scheduled for Monday.
